SUPA Winter Nationals 2013

Once again Edinburgh University Polo Club enjoyed a fantastic and successful SUPA Winter Nationals at Rugby Polo Club. After all arriving safely, the club got off to a great start with our team in the Novice 1 section winning their first chukka which put everyone in great spirits for a delicious meal at Prezzo that evening. The winning streak continued on Friday with some excellent play and resulting victories from both our Beginner and Novice Mixed teams. Four consecutive wins from both ensured they picked up the title of champions in their respective sections – Well done!

We witnessed some exciting matches on Saturday and Sunday from our Intermediate Combined Scotland Team where Edinburgh and St Andrews joined forces. Charlotte Bushby, Vicky Stockings and Sarah Middlemiss battled through the rain and sleet to do us proud. For the Beginners and Novice teams watching a lot was to be learned from their play.

Little sleep and lots of fun was had on Saturday night at the players party. This year’s theme was ‘random’ and it’s fair to say Edinburgh embraced it with enthusiasm. Feeling a little worse for wear the following day, the teams set off on a 6 hour journey back to Scotland having had a truly memorable weekend.

Special thanks must go to our sponsor GAM. With their help many members, new and old, have been given the opportunity to participate in such a rewarding tournament. What’s more, the umbrellas were particularly handy! Thanks also must go to Thom Bell and his team for providing such efficient horse hire for the weekend.
